The project I worked for two years on in China is the Shanxi Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion Project.  It involves the construction of 140km of tunnel, two underground pump houses and ancillary structures including shafts, aqueducts and culverts.  The initial phase of the project is to supply the provincial capital of Taiyuan, which is chronically short of water.  Later stages will supply Datong and Shuozhou.  The project is part World Bank funded.  Our (Mott MacDonald and Binnie Black & Veatch) role is to act as construction supervision advisors to the Employer and the Engineer.

More words on the Project will appear here soon, as the excavation nears completion...  Meanwhile, photos taken of TBM 2 shortly before I left China are here.
